Congratulations on deciding to participate in the Simcoe County Regional Science and Technology Fair!
Where do I start?
Do you live in Simcoe County? Are you interested in doing a Science Fair project? You’ve come to the right place!
Your first step? Find yourself an adult supervisor. This may be a teacher, parent, or guardian. Your supervisor doesn’t need to be a scientist or a science teacher, just someone who you can trust to support you when you have questions or need a helping hand.
You may already have a great idea for a project, or you may still be looking for a topic or problem that interests you. A Science Fair projects can teach us about the natural world, or develop new devices and technologies for our homes and communities. Whether you are just getting started or already have an idea, visit our Project Resources page for more guidance and inspiration.
Familiarize yourself with the Safety and Ethics policies as well as the Rules and Regulations.
If you plan to experiment on humans or animals, there are forms you will need to complete. These forms are mandatory for all regional fair participants. If you are not sure about whether your project meets ethics requirements, you can contact us and we will help you.
School Science Fairs
If you are participating in a Science Fair at your school, it will usually take place in January or February. It is a good idea to be finished well ahead of any deadline so that you can take time to create a display that will clearly communicate your thinking and your findings.
How do I register for the regional fair?
The registration deadline for the regional fair is usually the first week of March. If you are participating through your school, your teacher will help you register. If not, a parent or guardian may help you register. The registration link can be found on our homepage once registration opens, usually sometime in early February.
What should I know about the regional fair?
The regional fair will be held on a weekend in late March or early April. This is the typical schedule:
- Students check in and set up their projects before 6PM Friday.
- Judging occurs Friday evening 6PM – 9PM and Saturday morning 9AM – NOON.
- Fun activities and entertainment occur throughout the weekend,
- The awards ceremony takes place Saturday afternoon. When students are unable to attend the awards ceremony their prizes will be sent to them through the school courier.
The SCRSTF Committee is not responsible for the supervision of students at the regional Science Fair. Students must be supervised at all times, regardless of age. A parent or adult guardian must be supervising students and be aware of their responsibility at all times.
